Not skis but wheels - across country on a bike tour through the Speikboden skiing area
Gentle ascents, speedy descents, fun and adrenaline - there's a lot of variety given in this fantastic landscape
Straddle your bike at the Kreaktiv Basecamp in the village centre of Sand in Taufers and follow the river Ahr to the valley station of the Speikboden ropeway. Get into the cable-car and let it take you to an altitude of almost 1,2000m above sea level. After just a few minutes, you reach the mountain station with its breathtaking views and magnificent Alpine panorama. Allow yourself a moment to take it all in. Once you have savoured the view, you are ready for the descent, which first goes downhill into the direction of the Kleiner Nock, one of the most popular summits in the Ahrntal valley. Passing just below the summit, the tour now leads on in a short ascent which is followed by another descent leading down all the way to the village of Weißenbach. From there, the tour leads on to another highlight, the Schwarzbach waterfalls. Following the river Ahr from the village of Luttach, you will reach your starting point. The proposed tour is quite long, but not very demanding, offering a lot for comparably little effort. It certainly is an MTB tour for aficionados, which, at the same time, prepares for more challenging tours such as the popular and recommendable Sella Ronda tour in the Dolomites.
