Heaven-bound: Crossing several vegetation zones on the way to great heights
The Schwarzenstein glaciers is comparatively easy to climb and one of the most impressive three-thousanders in the Zillertal Alps
The Schwarzenstein glacier has many stories to tell. The most beautiful and inspiring ones are those of climbers reaching the summit after a strenuous ascent, looking down on the early morning mist covering the valley and life below them. Not very many people come up here, however. The summer is short and the hike is demanding. Reaching the summit is the privilege of ambitious. On the way to this very special vantage point, you will be leaving behind meadows, woods and alpine pastures and venture into the less hospitable regions barren of vegetation - the world of rock and perpetual ice. The tour starts at the restaurant Stallila. Here, visitors are picked up and dropped off at the Hofer-Paul-Hütte, which reduces the ascent by several hundred meters. The actual tour starts at the hut, leading upwards. The trail is diverting and only moderately difficult. This tour, leading up an impressive mountain, whose summit consists of massive blocks of stone, is truly fascinating and will prove an unforgettable experience, not least because of the stunning views it offers on the well-known rock formations of the Dolomites on the one hand, and on the Durrek and the Rieserferner groups, the Zillertal Alps, the Hochfeiler, the Floiten summits, the Löffler, the Rötspitze and the Dreiherrenspitze, which already belongs to the Venediger group. An absolutely fantastic panorama!
